Today we celebrate the WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY, with the theme “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow,” designed to draw attention and inspire action to prevent, detect, and manage foodborne risks and contribute to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism, and sustainable development.
Food safety saves lives and also plays a vital role in reducing foodborne disease. Every year, 600 million people fall sick because of around 200 different types of foodborne illness. The burden of such illness falls most heavily on the poor and on the young. In addition, foodborne illness is responsible for 420 000 preventable deaths every year.
For these reasons, Food safety is everyone's business!
Food supply chains involve several people - producers, processors, transporters, distributors, retailers, cooks as well as consumers and at every point in the chain, there are hazards that can cause contamination. Everyone involved at the various stages has a responsibility to keep food safe !
In Sovena, we are fully committed to Food Safety and our “Feeding Futures” signature reflects our compromise in this field for the coming years based in our values: professionalism, responsibility, reinvention, inspiration, and knowledge, together with a strong Food Safety Culture
